21 Day Fix for Life

Is 21 Day Fix really is the most effective weight loss and maintenance program available today? In my opinion. Yes, yes it really is. After using the program myself for 6 months and coaching others during that the same 6 month period I have learned so much about it and have been continually impressed by how it really does work for everybody and EVERY BODY.

I started as a way to cross train while training for my first marathon. At the time I was just running and I was confused as to why I wasn’t hitting my distance and speed targets that I wanted. My coach explained to me that in order to do my best as a runner, I needed to cross train. I needed to work my body in other ways and 21 Day Fix was the answer for me. I lost weight, gained more muscle, improved my cardio and ultimately my endurance. I finally ran my first marathon and hit the targets I was aiming for! However, this is not most people’s story. Most people come to 21 Day Fix because they are looking to lose weight and find a new lifestyle that is sustainable long term. This is not a diet or quick fix and it’s important to know that it does take commitment and work. Yes you will see results in 21 days but the idea is to use the program as a base for a long term healthy lifestyle. After reaching your initial goals, you can use 21 Day Fix as maintenance and stay on it for life. To this day I still do the workouts and eat according to the nutrition guide. Yes I sometimes go off it for a while during vacations, holidays and such but 21 Day Fix is my go to program to get back on track every time. I have coached people who have lost 5-10 lbs in 21 days and then continued to lose up to 25lbs over the course of a few months and be able to maintain it as their new lifestyle permanently. I love helping people to change their ways and live a healthier lifestyle both for themselves and their families!

Workouts

The workouts are designed to work the entire body throughout the week. They are set up in a sequence that gives optimal results if followed in that order. From total cardio to upper body then lower body, Pilates, then back to cardio and one final full body workout. Then a relaxing yoga session to round out the week. There’s even a bonus 10 minute ab workout. I always encourage my challengers to add in 10 minute abs daily as of week 2 of their challenge. It makes a huge difference!

The workouts are only 30 minutes each and are clearly demonstrated and explained for even the most novice of challengers. There are also modifications offered and shown in detail for each exercise. If something is too hard, just follow the modifier and work at your own level. This is how the program can grow with you. Starting with the lowest level and watching the modifier, then getting stronger and moving on to follow the trainer. Eventually it can be made even more challenging by using heavier weights and increasing the reps.

Nutrition

What happens in the kitchen and ultimately what makes it to your plate is what will make the difference in your health. Yes exercise is very important but what you fuel your body with is more important. Feed it garbage and you will feel like garbage. 21 Day Fix has made it easy to adopt a new clean eating lifestyle without feeling deprived of your favorite foods. The program comes with a container system that represents proteins, carbs, fruits, veggies, healthy fats, seeds and dressings. Everything is accounted for and portioned out according to a plan that will work for your body. First step is to complete the 21 Day Fix calorie calculation, this will tell you which group you fall into and how many times per day you should fill up your containers.  Then you’re ready to eat! For example, if you fall into the group that says to fill your red container of protein 4 times day, then plan to fill it once for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then the 4th time is your scoop of Shakeology! Repeat the same process for each container and you will find that you meals come together very easily. After a few weeks you will no longer need the containers as eating in this method simply becomes a habit.

  • 1 Purple: Cantaloupe
  • 1/2 Orange: Hemp seeds

Shakeology

So the first question I often get asked as a coach is what’s in Shakeology? Super foods. Is it natural? Yes. Is it processed? No. Can my kids drink it? Yes, my kids drink it and love it!

These questions always amuse me a little because I’ve never seen anyone ask these questions at the McDonald’s drive thru or while taking advantage of a free Coke refill or sadly even while feeding their children frozen dinners. So much of the food we eat on a daily basis is processed, filled with sugar, additives, GMO’s and who knows what else. Cancer, auto immune diseases are commonplace in today’s society. So where is all this coming from? In my humble opinion, it comes from decades of chemicals in our food.

I can only tell you what Shakeology has done for me. It gives me energy all day long, my mind is more alert and my body stronger. It is the best on the go snack, fills me up for a few hours and tastes like a decadent dessert. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, greenberry and cafe latte as well 2 vegan options chocolate and tropical strawberry. I’ve tried them all and each are able to curb any cravings I have for sweets or refined carbs/sugars.

Coaching

Why have a coach? Because you need someone to support you, challenge you, encourage you and be your cheerleader! I provide my challengers with tons of extras that make their experience more fun, keep them engaged and committed to their goals. After initially discussing their goals and recommending that right program for them, I then place them in a challenge group. Challenge groups are run via the Challenge Tracker App by Beachbody. This is a free app where you follow along with others in the group each day. There is a morning motivational post, a daily challenge to track things like water intake, veggies, overall wellness. Recipes for meals as well as Shakeology are provided and there’s a fun points system. Follow along and track your points and at the end of each 21 day challenge, a prize is awarded to the challenger who accumulated the most points! Prizes include gift cards, books and more! The points of course represent how committed that person was to the challenge and ultimately how much progress they made 😉

I also follow up with each challenger by phone or email once per week to discuss their personal progress and how to make the following week even better. Having a coach that is committed to your success is the key to getting the results that you want.
